The Golden State Warriors have gone through several name and location changes in their history. They started in 1946 as the Philadelphia Warriors playing in the Basketball Association of America before joining the NBA in 1949. In 1962 they moved to San Francisco becoming the San Francisco Warriors before changing their name again to the Golden State Warriors in 1971. The team is in the Western Conference Pacific Division and plays its home games at the Chase Center which has a capacity of 19,596. The team colors are royal blue and California golden yellow.
The team was successful from the very beginning, winning the inaugural BAA Finals in 1947 then losing in the Finals in its second year. After joining the NBA the Warriors won their second title in 1956 beating the Fort Wayne Pistons 4-1. During its time as the San Francisco Warriors the team was inconsistent but achieved some success, reaching two NBA Finals in 1964 and 1967. After rebranding themselves the Golden State Warriors in 1971 they reached their sixth Finals series in 1975 and beat the Bullets to win their Championship.
From the late 1970s the Warriors entered a drought lasting nearly a decade. In the late 1980s and early 90s they returned to some good form making the Playoffs a handful of times but not progressing past the Conference Semifinals. From the mid 90s they entered another long drought, not registering any good results until 2012. After rebuilding the team with a series of good draft choices the team was ready for a period of success. In 2015 they reached the first of five back-to-back NBA Finals, winning three. They beat the Cavaliers in 2015 to win their fourth Championship series. For the next three years they would meet the Cavs again, losing in 2016 but winning in 2017 and ‘18. In 2019 they took on the Raptors but lost the series over six games.
