The LA Clippers have had various names and played in a few locations over their history. In 1970 they started in the Eastern Conference Atlantic Division as the Buffalo Braves as an expansion team joining the NBA together with the Cleveland Cavaliers and the Portland Trail Blazers. In 1978 they relocated to San Diego becoming the San Diego Clippers, playing there for six seasons. In 1984 they moved again, this time to Los Angeles, to become known as the LA Clippers. The team is in the Western Conference Pacific Division and currently plays at the Staples Center, sharing the venue with the LA Lakers. The Clippers name comes from the team’s time in San Diego which was home to sailing ships named Clippers in the 19th Century. The team’s colors are red, blue, black, silver and white.
The Buffalo Braves had a slow start, not making the Playoffs in the first three seasons but over the next three seasons they made it to the Conference Semifinals. After the relocation to San Diego in 1978 the team fared poorly, not managing to place above fifth in their division and so not getting to the postseason at all. The Playoff drought continued after their move to Los Angeles being unable to reach the postseason for another seven years. In 1992 they finally reached the Playoffs but went out in the First Round to Utah Jazz and the following year to the Rockets. In 1997 they again went out in the First Round to Jazz before experiencing another postseason drought.
In the 2005-2006 season they managed to reach the Conference Semifinals before yet another drought, although they spent that time rebuilding the team. By 2011 they were ready for a period of some success and started to qualify for the Playoffs consistently, though they didn’t make it past the Conference Semifinals.
